Summary: Pre-Slash. Harry notices Draco watching him, and starts to question his own biases.

Reason:

Again, the Draco of the story is what pulled me intimately closer to it. To me, he makes the story with his poetic thoughts, such as:

"The emptiness I carry in my belly where there should be stars."

and the passage where he explains his view of Harry Potter

"We're all his puppets. (I say that fondly, and with profound admiration.) He wanted a rival, so he made me....

I'm both the luckiest and the unluckiest of the three. I'm obviously the most underprivileged, but I'm also the only one without a blindfold...His eleven-year-old mind created me full blown, and then moved on.

I'm seventeen and a half now. He has yet to give me any depth, so I've had to create my own. I can't let him see: I mustn't. He's not ready to deal with what that means, with what it requires of him. In all the ways that count, he's still a little boy....

My father says I was born hungry. I don't know how true that is, but I've forgotten what it feels like to be filled."

However, one of the greatest moments of the story came when Harry calmly thought to himself:

"Watching his flushed face and his jabbing gesticulations, the missing puzzle piece slipped into place. It's so obvious once you see it, like dismantling a Rubik's cube. Draco doesn't want to be my friend; he wants to be my lover."

It just comes across as hilarious in an piece that is otherwise almost philosophical.

Beautiful and moving.

Summary: "Someone at the Ministry has it in for former Death Eaters. Draco Malfoy launches his political career as a rebel. Harry thinks it’s all a laugh."

Reason: This story features one of the most amazingly crafted characterization of Draco. He carries the story, held aloft by an adorably clueless Harry. I loved the way this story flowed and how the relationship gradually progressed.

It had beautiful wording and absolutely perfectly quotable passages such as this:

“I’m saying what you said, about me treading water, that’s true. But I look at you and—I know what I want. I know what to do. Sometimes I see you—do you remember that time? It was Christmas, and you were showing Teddy the stars, and you did that spell on my eyes. I’ve never . . . I’ve never seen so clearly in all my life as I did that night. And all I see—when the world is clear like that, when the sky is light, for once—all I see is you.”

Harry realized Malfoy never actually expected anyone to believe all his bollocks. He just expected them to let him off anyway because he was . . . irresistible. Or something, Harry didn’t know.

Summary: This is a really cute fic whose premise can be summed up by the story Buffy tells to her unborn child-

"Once upon a time, in a land far, far away there was a beautiful princess named Elizabeth. Now Princess Elizabeth had everything she could ever want. She lived in her beautiful kingdom on the hill in the magical place called Sunnydale where she knew everyone and was liked by all.

One day Princess Elizabeth was out for a walk when she ran into her best friend Prince William who was the most handsome prince in all the land. Princess Elizabeth had always had a secret crush on him but was too shy to say anything. They walked together and talked about how they both wanted to run away and find their own dreams and not have to live up to what their parents had planed for them. As the night grew dark, they both found they didn't want to go home, so they found a spot to lay and look at the stars. They both drifted to sleep and awoke to the castle guards staring at them. Princess Elizabeth was swept away back to her castle where her Mother waited for her return. When Princess Elizabeth arrived, her Mother was very angry. She had found out that the Princess was alone with Prince William all night long and that she was secretly in love with him. Therefore, to punish her she locked her daughter away in the tallest tower of a castle in a far off land away from Prince William.

Princess Elizabeth was heartbroken that she didn't get a chance to tell the Prince that she loved him or where she was. Princess Elizabeth sat in her tower day in and day out waiting patiently for the day that Prince William would come and rescue her from her prison.

Now most fairytales end with a happily ever after, but for Princess Elizabeth she still sits and wonders if some day her Prince will come..."

I also enjoyed this moment-

Spike’s eyes went wide with realization. “Oh Fuck! The baby! Oh god Buffy we need to get you to the hospital!” he said hysterically.

Buffy rolled her eyes and gave him a ‘duh’ look. “You think?”

My Comments:
This story is the very definition of adorable. Draco is splendidly canon and OOC at the same time. I love him in this story. It's quite hard to review without ruining the story so here:

"...he called Draco's name in such a way that Draco thought there would never be anything but happiness ever again."

"Draco wanted to get married before he got fat. He didn't think it was too much to ask. "

Summary: Draco Malfoy had been born into power, watched his family stripped of that power, then faced a terrible realisation: power was relative. Harry Potter had grown into power because of who he was, but he rarely gave it much thought, now that he had it. A difference akin to that between light and dark, though it wasn't clear to either of them which side was the dark side. As the war faded from memory and time, these two lives ended up on a collision course. Anything might happen when they meet in that strange hour on the brink of twilight.

My Comments: With such an interesting premise, the hotness was just a bonus, but what a bonus it was.

" 'You want it.'

I need it, Draco's inner voice corrected him. 'Potter, this is a very bad idea.'

'I know,' murmured Potter. His lips were just a fraction from Draco's, just a breath away. 'My ideas generally are.' "

The ending was great and the writing- absolutely fantastic.

"Heat surged through him, light and sound and motion."

" 'So Harry will be the cowboy and Malfoy will be the horse,' Ron said thoughtfully.

'I suppose you could put it that way,' Blaise admitted.

'Harry will be the Firebolt and Malfoy will be the flyer.'

'Right.'

'Harry will be the tamer and Malfoy will be the dragon.'

....It had all been quite satisfyingly normal, Draco thought with a smirk. Just two half-naked boys rolling around a field, smearing paint on each other. Draco's smile wavered.

"How are you feeling, Draco?" Crabbe asked, pushing aside the crossword puzzle he'd been doing in ink.

"Heterosexual, thank you," Draco said quickly.

Goyle blinked. "What?"

"Exceptional," Draco said. "I'm feeling exceptional."

wow. the most amazing thing written. period. it's just so breathtakingly effulgent. absolutely brilliant in so many ways, although it's also the most bittersweet thing i've ever encountered. i have SO many favorite quotes from this story, so i'll just give you a glimpse of the beginning....

"His eyes are focused solely on you as he listens ...watching as you take an equal amount of strides to put you face to face with the inquisitive Gryffindor.

'Really?' he drawls offhandedly as you stand a mere foot span away, 'And what if I'd taken your hand, your friendship back in 1st year? Where would we be now?'

He expects you to flush with resentment at the reminder of his disdainful refusal of your friendship, expects you to snarl and spit, threaten him and his then and walk away. But not this time.

This time as you stand close enough to glare...You step as close as you can bear, sneering as if it pains you to step so close but then, in truth, it does. ...and for one awful ...moment, you consider telling him precisely where you think you'd be.

He confides in the Marauders who try to help him/impede him (you can pick or decide if some of them decide to help and others don't) in his wooing efforts. Comedy would be lovely. Title and lyrics (not in any order) are taken from the song Dead on Arrival, by Fall Out Boy.

My Comments/Reasons:

'It's like this song you always hear, you know?" Harry finally said. "You think you hate it because you're not quite sure what you like, anyway. One day you find that you know all the bloody words, you can't get it out of your head... and you don't mind that at all.' "

ah. so brilliant.
it's believeable, has wonderful flow, and reads like poetry.
i repeat, brilliant.

oh. and her malfoy is stunning.

"You have a few disagreements and everyone calls it a war..." ha. so malfoyesque.
